Explosive Decompression

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

I get the impression that people seem to like the vacuum system. We’ve demonstrated how it works in a corridor-based system, and it’s very effective. We’ve taken the feedback we received and changed a few things based on it, so thanks for the comments.

Anyway, I’m sure you’d like to see another clip, so here you go:

So, space flight. We’re going to have it in that it will feature in the game. However, it won’t be a major feature – you won’t be climbing into your X-wing and blasting round the galaxy. In other words, it’s going to be limited. This is partly due to technical limitations – the map has physical limits (and god knows gamers like to push those limits “what happens when I fly to the edge?”), and partly because the player has things to do – your mission might require you to dodge round the superstructure of an enemy ship, staying out of detection range, before popping up and sliding into their conveniently open hangar bay.

A somewhat belated update, this.
Things are still progressing fairly well. I have to admit to hitting a metaphorical wall a few weeks ago, where I just couldn’t get up any enthusiasm to actually work on any maps or models. Lack of enthusiasm is anathema to any kind of creative work. So I spent a good couple of weeks cursing myself for not having done any work and deciding to do some tomorrow, definitely this time, no excuses. Tomorrow. Right. Didn’t happen, as you might guess…
